Career Guidance and Student Counsellor

School Counsellor:  Ms Naomi Noble

The College has a Careers Counsellor and a fully equipped Careers Room. Parents can make appointments to discuss their daughter's career aspirations and students can of course make appointments to see the Careers Counsellor.

Careers is a growing development in schools and current research indicates that Career Education must begin in Year 8. This does not mean that students are asked to know what career/s they are wanting to pursue but rather the education takes place around skills that need to be developed as well as heightening students' awareness concerning social and personal skills which are seen as the key issues for employees today.

The College offers students the opportunity to be involved in School Based Apprenticeships (SBA) and the Careers Counsellor can assist with the organisation of these. Students from Year 10 onwards can apply for a SBA but it is advised that they have undertaken some work experience or paid work before they embark on a SBA.

The Careers Counsellor assists students and parents with career planning and preparation for post-school transition. Work experience, industry placements, traineeships and other vocational opportunities are organised.

Careers Days are offered to students from Year 10 to 12. Additionally, an extensive collection of electronic, print, audio-visual, CD, and on-line resources is available through the Careers Office.

Student Counsellor:

The College has a Personal Counsellor who can work with students, parents and staff on an individual or group basis. Adolescence is a demanding time for young women and the counsellor can assist them with personal, staff or family issues.

The Counsellor also runs groups for students and parents. The overall aim of the Counsellor is to help students live in a life giving manner.
